How to Make Tamabuchi (Edge Piping)

Cut fabric into 1cm strips
Fig.1: Arrows indicate fabric direction. Cut into strips about 1cm wide.
Deepen the groove and apply glue
Fig.2: Deepen the groove where the edge will fit and apply glue.
Fold chirimen in half and place it
Fig.3: Fold the chirimen in half so the groove is centered.
Temporarily press into the groove

Trim excess fabric
Fig.5: Trim off any excess fabric.
Secure without pushing inside too much
Fig.6: Press into place. Do not push too hard or the piping will sink into the groove.
Pull the folded chirimen fabric
Fig.7: Pull the folded chirimen fabric as you work.
Fix temporarily with glue in groove
Fig.8: After fixing the edge, pull the fabric while folded and press into place. Apply glue to the groove in advance.
Trim and secure as in Fig.6
Fig.9: Trim excess and secure as shown in Fig.6.
Repeat in 2cm sections
Fig.10: Repeat the same steps in small sections (about 2cm). Avoid doing it all at once.
