Hishida Shunsō (1874–1911) was a Japanese painter from Nagano who studied under Okakura Tenshin and co-founded the Japan Art Institute with Yokoyama Taikan. He pioneered the mōrōtai style, suppressing outlines and using mist-like shading, bringing innovation to modern Japanese painting. His major works include Fallen Leaves and Black Cat. Though he died at the young age of 36, his approach had a lasting influence on later generations.

Hishida Shunsō’s Sparrows on a Pear Tree is a kachōga (bird-and-flower painting) depicting sparrows perched on the branches of a pear tree. Using the mōrōtai style, with softened outlines and delicate shading, it conveys a gentle, tranquil atmosphere. The work captures familiar nature with poetic sensitivity and exemplifies Shunsō’s innovative role in modern Japanese painting.
High-definition art painting (hand-colored complementary colors)
The work is printed on a Shin-ken-bon (High quality printing paper) using cutting-edge giclee printing techniques adopted by famous art museums around the world to produce replicas, and the final finish is hand-colored with complementary colors to create a realistic look. It is weather-resistant and not easily decomposed by light or ozone in the air, so the color tone is less likely to change over time and the beauty will not change.
