Gyokudo Kawai

Gyokudo Kawai (1873–1957) was a Japanese painter who poeticized the beauty of nature and the daily lives of people. Having studied the Maruyama-Shijo and Kano schools, he was actively involved with both the Nihon Bijutsuin (Japan Art Institute) and the Tokyo Fine Arts School. Throughout his life, he continued to paint the pristine landscapes of Japan and was awarded the Order of Culture.
