Ito Jakuchu

Ito Jakuchu (1716–1800) was a mid-Edo period Japanese painter renowned for his highly original bird-and-flower paintings characterized by vivid colors and meticulous detail. Born into a wealthy merchant family in Kyoto, he retired at the age of 40 to devote himself entirely to painting. He is best known for his dynamic, lifelike depictions of flora and fauna, most famously seen in his masterpiece series, Doshoku Sai-e (Recreation of Nature).
