• Kawabata Ryushi (1885–1966) was an innovative Japanese painter active during the Taisho and Showa periods. He founded the Seiryu-sha group, which advocated "venue art," and pursued art that was open to the masses. He also established the Ryushi Memorial Museum near his home.
