Japanese traditional fabrics—such as kinran brocade, chirimen crepe, and yuzen prints—are available in convenient small cuts. These fabrics are especially suited for traditional kimekomi dolls and other seasonal / ceremonial display elements, such as backgrounds for decorative hagoita and accent details for Japanese doll displays.

Below, we introduce tips for choosing the right fabric and show sample uses, followed by a list of available fabric pieces.

Types of Japanese Fabrics

Kinran (Brocade)

Luxurious and richly textured. Ideal for kimekomi doll costumes, traditional accents, and decorative details for seasonal displays.

Chirimen (Crepe)

Soft and easy to work with, available in many colors. Suitable for doll-related adornments and gentle, refined decorative elements.

Yuzen (Printed Fabric)

Thin, smooth, and highly workable. Features both vibrant and subdued patterns, well suited to traditional motifs and fine details in ceremonial displays.

How should I choose the right fabric?
  • Kinran: When you want a rich, luxurious, and decorative finish.
  • Chirimen: When you prefer a soft texture and a gentle, refined look.
  • Yuzen: Ideal for expressing delicate, refined patterns thanks to its printed design.
What is the minimum unit I can purchase?
You may purchase by 10 cm, 50 cm, 1 meter, etc. For details, please refer to “Fabric Sizes and Pricing.”
Can these fabrics be washed?
Kinran and chirimen are intended for decorative use. They may shrink or lose color when exposed to water. We recommend treating them as non-washable.

This is a website that mainly introduces products sold online. Please note that we only sell cut samples of 33cm x 40cm Japanese fabric in our physical stores.

    About product images

    We have tried to make the images of the fabrics as close to the actual product as possible, but please note that some colors may look quite different from the actual product due to differences in displays or PCs, lighting conditions, etc.

      Sales unit and price of fabric

      The price of fabric is set at a higher discount rate as the sales unit increases. Please check below for details.

      • The smallest basic size displayed on the fabric image page is narrow width (30-33cm) x length (20cm) = ¥OOO.
        Also, if there are options in the variations, you can change the basic size.
        The largest basic size is narrow width (30-33cm) x length (100cm) = ¥OOO or wide width (60-66cm width) x length (50cm) = ¥OOO. The larger the basic size, the cheaper it is, so we recommend purchasing a larger basic size.
        • *If you need a large quantity at once, please change the numbers on the order form. Products will be delivered without being cut to their total size.
          For example, if you need 1.5m of a large width (60-66cm wide), select the large 50cm basic size and set the number to 3.
          You can also extend the total length slightly by purchasing an additional smaller size.
          If you are ordering the same product, we will deliver it uncut, but please note this in the communication field just to be sure.
