How to make a genuine collars

1) First of all, make preparations.

FIG. 1

FIG. 2

Figures 1 and 2 show the parts that will become the collar.

B through D are folded in half at the center. A will be the outermost collar, so fold it in thirds.

FIG. 3

Attach white Chirimen to the back of the neck. In this case, we will also insert wire to secure the neck in place.

    2) Attaching the head

    FIG. 4

Apply glue to the part where the neck will be attached.

      FIG. 5

To avoid getting your face dirty, cover your face from the chin up. (Be careful not to cover your neck as you will be attaching the collars.)

Also, the H part is where the collar will be fastened after the final overlap. Make the groove deep beforehand.

Wait until the head glue has completely dried before proceeding to the next step.

        3) Make the collars

        FIG. 6

Once the glue has dried and the head is attached, trim the chirimen at the back of the neck.

          FIG. 7

Check the center of the overlapping collars.

            FIG. 8

            FIG. 9

On only one side of the collar A that has been folded in thirds, make two cuts as shown in Figs. 8 and 9, and create Shita as shown in Fig. 9, E.

              FIG. 10

              FIG. 11

Cut the collar parts (B,D) slightly in the center as shown in Fig. 10 F. This is the part where the collar overlaps at the back of the part, so if you don't do this, it will affect the finish.

                FIG. 12

                Apply glue at position G.

                  FIG. 13

Shift it about 1 mm and attach fabric B.

                    FIG. 14

Squeeze it to fit the shape of your neck.

                      FIG. 15

                        FIG. 16

Repeat the same process for collars C and D, shifting them by 1mm each.

                          FIG. 17

When the collar is finished, it will look like this. Apply glue to the outside of Shita E of collar A.

                            4) Attach the collars

                            FIG. 18

Once Shita E is attached to the base of the neck in this way, apply glue to the outside of the white Chirimen that was attached from the top first, and stick it down so that it covers the tongue.

                              FIG. 19

Next, raise the collar as shown in Figure 19 and secure it firmly with a pin.

                                FIG. 20

Try stacking the collars in order to get a feel for the finished product. Ultimately, it's an important confirmation task to achieve this balance.

                                  FIG. 21

Once the position is decided, cut off the unnecessary parts as shown in Figure 21.

                                    FIG. 22

Cut off the bottom of the overlapping part. This is the key to making sure the collar doesn't become too thick.

                                      FIG. 23

                                        FIG. 24

Apply a small amount of glue and attach as shown in Figure 25.

                                          FIG. 25

For collar C, repeat the same process as for collar D.

                                            FIG. 26

The same applies to collars A and B, but in this case, instead of wearing them one by one, you wear two at the same time.

                                              FIG. 27

                                                FIG. 28

                                                  FIG. 29

Finally, 1) insert the piece into the H groove in Figure 2, which was made deeper in the preliminary steps, as shown in Figures 27 to 29.
