Kakejiku ;Hanging scroll

 

Hanging scrolls, or "kakejiku," feature various content that is frequently changed according to seasonal events and room decor. Traditionally, they have depicted landscapes, flora and fauna, calligraphy, and Buddhist art. However, in recent years, they have also incorporated modern art techniques.

 

Hanging scrolls consist of the following components:

1. Honshi (本紙): The central part where the main artwork or calligraphy is located.
2. Ten (天): The upper fabric section.
3. Chi (地): The lower fabric section.
4. Ichimonji (一文字): The thin fabric strip between the ten and chi, often adorned with luxurious brocade, serving as a focal point.
5. Jiku (軸): The wooden rollers at the top and bottom.
Most of the hanging scrolls we sell are printed with Giclée techniques and mounted on honshi with fabrics such as silk.
