How to choose a Shinno-dai size (for dressed dolls)

The basic rule for choosing a Shinnodai (imperial doll stand) is to match it to the size of your dolls.

For dolls dressed in elaborate costumes:

  • Use a size 10 stand for size 10 dolls.
  • Use a Keshi stand for Keshi dolls.

Matching the same size notation will create a natural and cohesive look.

If you don't know the size, try using the following as a guide: choose a stand where the width of the prince's sleeve appears to be roughly the same as the width of the black lacquered part of the Shinnodai.

Because the Shinnodai has a two-tiered structure, the sleeves of dolls dressed in elaborate costumes may slightly extend beyond the upper tier's tatami mat. Some people prefer the sleeves to be contained within the tatami, so please choose based on the overall impression and your personal preference.

How to choose the size of a Prince/Princess doll display stand (for Kimekomi dolls)

For Kimekomi dolls (wooden-base dolls with fabric pressed into grooves),

We recommend choosing a stand where the width of the doll (the part touching the base) is about the same as, or slightly smaller than, the width of the main stand's seating surface (the width of the tatami or edge).

However, Kimekomi dolls are often set on their own dedicated stands, and the dolls themselves may be made with a wider depth.

Our main stands are generally manufactured to dimensions for clothed dolls, and we do not have specifications for wider depths.

If you plan to use a stand for a Kimekomi doll, please check both the width and depth before making your selection.
