• Takeuchi Seihō (1864–1942) was a painter who contributed greatly to the innovation of Japanese painting. He combined traditional techniques with Western realism, and was known as a master of animal painting. His representative works include "Striped Cat," and he was awarded the Order of Culture in 1937.

• Takeuchi Seihō’s Spotted Cat (Hannyo) is a Japanese painting depicting a large white cat with black markings, crouching and staring intently forward. With the background largely omitted, the composition emphasizes the cat’s presence, while its fur and markings are rendered in exquisite detail.
