Kitagawa Utamaro's "Nanbaya Okita" is a representative work of Edo period beauties. It depicts Okita, the poster girl of the Asakusa teahouse "Nanbaya," known as one of the "Three Beauties of the Kansei Era." She is elegantly posed holding a tea bowl, and in the upper left corner of the painting there is a "riddle" showing her name. This work well displays the characteristics of Utamaro's large-headed beauties.
