Shoen Uemura
Shoen Uemura (1875–1949) was a renowned Japanese painter active from the Meiji to the Showa period and a leading master of bijinga (paintings of beautiful women). Born in Kyoto, she built upon the foundation of the Shijo school to consistently depict pure, elegant, and refined female figures. Her representative works, such as Noh Dance Prelude (Jo-no-Mai) and Mother and Child (Boshi), delicately capture the inner mind and emotions of women. Establishing a firm position in a male-dominated art world, she became the first woman to be awarded the Order of Culture in 1948. Her artistic style, embodying truth, goodness, and beauty, continues to captivate many people today.
Miyuki, The Maiden
Miyuki, The Maiden (Musume Miyuki) by Shoen Uemura takes its theme from the Edo-period tale Asagao Nikki (The Morning Glory Diary), depicting the refined grace and inner beauty of a young woman. By keeping the background simple and placing the woman at the center of the composition, her presence and spiritual depth are strikingly highlighted. Through soft colors and delicate brushwork, her quietness and purity are carefully expressed, quietly conveying the protagonist's subtle emotions to the viewer in a poetic masterpiece unique to Japanese painting.
Mini Hanging Scroll
This compact hanging scroll is designed to resemble a traditionally mounted scroll. The decorative fūtai strips are integrated into the upper fabric, and the roller ends are made of resin. Its compact size makes it as easy to display as a poster, while its affordable price allows you to enjoy Japanese art casually.
High-Definition Art Reproduction with Hand-Applied Color
The artwork is reproduced on specially prepared Shinkenpon, a silk-like fabric, using advanced giclée printing technology also employed by major museums worldwide for fine-art reproductions. The final details are enhanced with hand-applied color to create a more vivid and realistic appearance. The materials offer excellent resistance to light and ozone, helping preserve the original colors and beauty over time.
