- Katsushika Hokusai's "Under the Great Wave off Kanagawa" is an ukiyo-e created around 1830 and is one of the masterpieces of the "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" series. This ukiyo-e depicts the contrast between the power of nature and the humans who confront it, with three ships at the mercy of rough waves and Mount Fuji towering in the background, and the power of the waves and the tranquil distant view are impressive.
